We love our beautiful flock of American Bresse. These wonderful birds came from the Bresse region of France, where the poulet de Bresse is said to be the most tasty chicken you could find. Bresse are an excellent dual purpose chicken as they are a chunky bird that grows fast, starts laying early and will provide a good number of large, light brown eggs throughout the year.
Featured here is one of our Roosters Rudy and a couple of his lovely ladies.
We regularly hatch chicks throughout the year so please feel free to inquire on our next availability if interested! We also offer discounts for orders of 30+ straight run chicks when pre-ordered.
Black Copper Marans are another French breed widely know for their dark chocolate colored eggs. These birds have a laid back attitude and our girls have no problem keeping our four roosters in line.
Our breeders are a mix of Show Quality birds, selected by SOP and another line selected by egg color.
I cannot get enough of these guys, our boys always let the girls eat first (my bet is out of self preservation) and happily wait their turn. I have never seen a group of roosters get along so well. Here they are enjoying their afternoon fermented feed.
New Hampshire Reds were derived from the popular Rhode Island Red and were bred for faster growth and feathering. They make an excellent hardy dual purpose bird as they grow large and fast and lay upwards of 300 brown eggs a year. These birds are absolute tanks! Our new Hampshire's are from the famous Henry Knoll line. Roosters can reach 6lbs at 10-11 weeks.
Serama chickens are the definition of tiny but mighty! These little guys have such personalities! Also by far the most friendly birds we have. Seramas are considered the smallest chicken breed in the world and are more for enjoyment than eggs. This is one of our favorite birds to hatch. Our flock is mainly black, blue and splash. We we hope to introduce a mottled line in the next few months.
Legbars are good layers of medium to large blue eggs. These are an autosexing breed so you can tell males from females as soon as they hatch. Great foragers and used widely to make sexlink crosses with other breeds.
We all need to quack up a little in our lives. Our Indian Runner ducks make for great layers of jumbo, white and green eggs. They are amazing pest control for coquis, slugs and snails or pretty much anything else that crawls or flies slow enough to be food. No duck out there will have such a strong opinion about needing to be fed.
Want an inspector for everything you do as you work in the yard? Get a few Romans. Seasonally they lay massive eggs and are great parents, being know to adopt other goslings or ducklings.
Romans are considered a light goose breed and with these guys around nobody picks a fight in our yard.
Geese get a bad rap for being aggressive, however, I don't find that case with these guys. Geese are protective of their space and flock, so they make excellent guardians.
